Decorating & Planting Policy

Green Lawn's planting and decorating policy allows a great deal of latitude for the decorating of individual graves and lots while striving to ensure a consistently safe and tasteful environment for all of our lot owners and visitors. The policy is also designed to allow for a safe environment for our employees to efficiently complete the maintenance of the cemetery. There are both General Rules as well as rules that are specific to each type of lot or mausoleum location. We ask that anyone who will be decorating a lot or crypt become familiar with the policy related to that lot and respect the rules as outlined. Following is a copy of the Planting & Decorating Policy, which is also available at the cemetery's administration building.

GENERAL RULES

  • Only grass may be planted on top of the grave.
  • Burial flowers will be left on the grave for one week after the burial.
  • Shepherds hooks, and other décor that may create a safety hazard, are not allowed and will be removed immediately.
  • Glass vases, bottles, stone chips, fencing, lot enclosures or any edging materials are not permitted around monuments, markers or cemetery lots.
  • Any planting that encroaches on another person's lot may be trimmed or removed by cemetery personnel.
  • In keeping with Green Lawn's Victorian rural design, artificial flowers are discouraged.
  • Any flowers or plants that have died, withered or become unsightly will be removed.
